Thousands of outsourced labor in Indonesia did not get a Holiday Allowance (THR) and even dismissed ahead of Eid, according to one labor activist today.
Said Iqbal, President of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Indonesia (KSPI) said, when following the rules of Manpower and Transmigration Ministry (Permenakertrans), THR is paid no later than a week before Eid. That means the deadline for payment is Monday THR (13/8) yesterday.
"To this day, we kept getting complaints from workers. The majority of workers outsourching ", he told ucanews.com.
He cited, in Koja, North Jakarta there are about 1200 employees from three outsourcing companies are not getting THR.
Iqbal explains, even in places outsourced workers accidentally fired by the company.
"We received 800 complaints from two employees of outsourcing companies in Sidoarjo, East Java, who deliberately laid off".

"They fired seven days ahead of Eid, and promised to be contracted again after Eid".
He added that many workers do not dare take any action because of fear after the Eid they would not be rehired.

Iqbal explains, many companies who fail to pay THR because Permenakertrans not establish strict penalties for violating the affiliated companies.
"That's why in the long run we will try to request that Permenakertrans was converted to government regulation or a presidential decree and establish legal sanctions", he said.

Meanwhile, Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of Manpower and Transmigration in a press conference at his office on Monday (13/8) yesterday, said it had received 19 cases of complaints about THR. The amount is far lower than last year's 84 complaints.
"We continue to monitor and supervise the payment of THR in the center and regions, especially the aspects of the timeliness and magnitude of the bonus that is paid. Any violation of workers' basic rights will be strictly penalized, "said Muhaimin.
